Another query in my recent barrage of "too many (opposing) opinions".

Does my desktop and/or HP and/or Microsoft and/or various component

manufacturers automatically  update/upgrade their individual products?

Or do they even automatically alert ME to the need to approve this and/or

instruct me how to do it myself?  ie:  wanna prevent 'antiquating' desktop.

@TexasIndian,

See my response earlier today: Re: BIOS....that's a whole 'nother bag-o-nails - HP Support Community - 8827527.

So, the answer to this question is: it depends. Often, no. Better to be proactive than to rely on 'the system', so to speak.

Kind Regards,

So nice to get such seemingly preferential treatment from an

obvious intelligent masochist:  after 35+ yrs of marriage, I'm

very well aware what an annoying pia I am...but you keep on

answering queries/offering advice+guidance to this PainInAss.

Do NOT misunderstand...VERY appreciative.  It's very obvious

your tech-knowledge is miles above my head, yet you always

seem to speak my preferred language: 'techno-inept'.  Thanks

AND their pictures too!! (and graphs, articles, defining sites too).

Makes it MUCH easier for me to reference later at my own leisure.

BIOS:  not only totally unaware what this is/does/etc. have learned

            just enough from long list of issues referenced on this site;

            don't touch if ain't broke...and ONLY if HP Support dictates!!

Updates:  will do...periodically  (monthly?)

'Sleep':  Is this an independent selection (I have in my "Start" icon)??

               Meaning DO select "sleep" every night rather than either

               selecting "Shut down"?  Or my current (forever) method

               of just letting monitor/pc 'go dark' eventually; then when

               I want to 'turn on' just press keyboard Windows symbol/

              "option" key and stare at screen for 10-15 seconds?  NO?

@TexasIndian,

No worries whatsoever: you are very welcome: I enjoy the interactions and discussions!

1.) BIOS: leave it alone.

2.) Updates: monthly.

3.) Sleep:  Yes.

Obviously, if you are hyper-concerned about keeping as low a carbon footprint as possible and save a few dimes, by all means, go Shut down.
