HP EliteDesk 800 G1 sff
Ubuntu 22.x LTS
Are these temperatures ok for my desktop?
This is what they are when running an intensive Playstation 2 emulator.
Addendum: It sometimes reaches 89 or 90 degrees C. I have the Intel(R) core(TM) I5-4570 CPU@3.20 GHZ. 1 PHYSICAL PROCESSOR; 4 CORES; 4 THREADS. When Emulator isn't running nothing gets above 42 C.
p.s. Isn't the system suppose to shut down if it gets too hot?

Can I get another fan and just duck tape it inside the box. Is there an extra place to plug the fan in to get electrical and tell it when to kick on/turn up, etc... ?
I have about a 6 to 8 year old HP EliteDesk G1 SFF. I always think of HP having good stuff & extra connectors inside (?)
Right now I want to add an extra fan. Can someone tell me if there is another connector to plug in another fan that the computer will power and control speed of?

For that processor the temps are too high.
That 4th Gen processor has max tCase temps of 72.7 degC.
"From Intel: Thermal Monitoring Technologies protect the processor package and the system from thermal failure through several thermal management features. An on-die Digital Thermal Sensor (DTS) detects the core's temperature, and the thermal management features reduce package power consumption and thereby temperature when required in order to remain within normal operating limits."
I would redo the thermal paste on the processor.
What are you using to get the temp readings?
If the processor has not shutdown the PC at 89-90C I would tend not to believe it is actually that hot.
The processor will throttle down before it shuts down.

Could you tell me if there is a plug in for another fan, even if I have to tape a mini fan in there.
My computer is the HP EliteDesk G1 SFF
p.s. I checked 2 other LInux temperature sensor programs, and it is indeed getting that hot - only when I'm running my Playstation 2 emulator though. I will turn off the emulator until I can get another fan in there....

In a HP EliteDesk G1 SFF there probably isn't another connection for an additional fa.
Even it there was, where would you put one sufficiently large enough to have an effect?
Those little PCs are simple to open. Why not open it and take a look?
Repasting the processor will have the greatest effect on lowering the temps.

Above is my computer. Does anyone think it has a connector for a mini fan?
I was thinking a mini fan may be put in there.
Someone else recommended a certain graphics card.
Do you really think it needs new paste if it only gets hot when the Playstation 2 emulator is running? At all other times it is perfectly cool.

Can anyone think of any reason this fan wouldn't work? I will also buy an extra wire that extends my current fan being able to be hooked up too.
Before I order the expansion wire, how many pins does the wire need to hook into?

I settled on this fan with a 4 pin extender wire

Small form factor desktop PCs just don't have:
1) an extra three or four pin fan connector
2) a PSU that has an extra power connector you can use to source for extra fan power
3) extra space or intake/exhaust ports and holes to mount another fan. Time for a drill and measurement.
An extra fan is not going to make much, if any difference in the temperatures.
Do you not have enough confidence in your abilities to remove the old thermal interface material and replace it with thermal conductive grease( such as Arctic 2)?
Happy research and good luck with your CPU temps!
