HP Envy Phoenix 850-065se
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have two HP ENVY Phoenix 850-065se desktops.  These have a Viking system board with an SSID of 2B3A.  I recently updated the BIOS from A0.07 to A0.08 and I suspect this update is causing some random freezes.  Because of this, I need to rollback the BIOS to the previous version.

When booting, I hit F2 to get to the diagnostics on the EFI partition.  I select Firmware Management | BIOS Rollback | Rollback Now.  It fails with the following error message...

The system BIOS rollback failed.
BIOS image file specified did not pass validation.

Next, I created a BIOS Recovery USB drive.  From the EFI diagnostics, I select Firmware Management | BIOS Update | Select BIOS Image to Apply.  I choose the BIOS file from the BIOS Recovery USB drive.  It fails with the same message as before.

I've tried (unsuccessfully) rolling back to both A0.06 and A0.07.  I updated the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI to the latest version (v6.9.1.0) with the same results.  Both desktops are behaving exactly the same.

At this point, I'm hoping someone has been through this and has figured it out.

Thanks for any assistance.
