I will be upgrading my current Intel i5-8500 to a i7-8700 3.2 ghz. I wanted to confirm that I was operating on the most recent BIOS. I have run CPU-Z and determined I am on version F.46 dated 8/5/21.
How can I confirm if that BIOS version will work with my new i7?
Separate question - if it is not necessary to upgrade, is there any benefit to me updating the BIOS?
Thank you in advance for any assistance that can be provided!

If your PC has the ROM Family SSID 844C BIOS, the latest BIOS update is F.50.
HP ENVY Desktop - 795-0030qd CTO Software and Driver Details
If you click to expand the Revision History section at the link above, you will see all of the release notes for the previous BIOS updates and what they fixed or enhanced.
F.21 Added the support for Intel i5-9400 processor
F.22 Added the support for Intel i7-9700 processor
No BIOS revisions added support for the i7-8700 processor which means it was supported by the very first BIOS release.
There is no need to update the BIOS to install the i7-8700 processor or even the i7-9700 processor for that matter, given the fact that you indicated your PC has BIOS vF.46 installed.
Read the release notes for vF.47>F.50 and decide for yourself if it is worth the risk of updating the BIOS.
