HP EliteDesk 800 G6 Tower PC RCTO Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a really really really problem with my computer, I have an HP EliteDesk 800 G6 Tower PC and about a month or two ago after a regular WINDOWS UPDATE, which WINDOWS decided to push a BIOS update without asking, something really bad happened to me. Every two weeks or so when I turn on my computer, nothing appears on the screen. The computer fans are at maximum and nothing appears. After that, I have to force the computer to turn it off. i turn on the computer with WIN+B and only then does it turn on and work for about a week or two and then it happens again. I have tried everything possible, turning off the BIOS updates from the BIOS, turning it off from WINDOWS, I tried downloading the BIOS again too, I don't know what else I should do, it should stop, I have to stop it because the BIOS chip has a limit on how many times it can be reprogrammed and if it reaches the limit, my situation will be really bad... What should I do?!?! Please help me.

@Gever07,

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue.

Based on your description, it does not sound to me that Windows is reflashing the BIOS every two weeks.

Instead, it sounds like the PC is occasionally failing to complete POST (Power-On Self-Test), and using Win + B is allowing the system to recover.

A few questions:

  1. What is your current BIOS version? (Press F10 at startup or run msinfo32 in Windows and check BIOS Version/Date.).  The most recent BIOS version for your PC is listed as: 02.26.00 Rev.A (June 2026) by HP.
  2. Which processor is installed (Intel Core i5, i7, etc.)?
  3. Are you using the integrated graphics or a dedicated graphics card?
  4. Have you added or replaced any hardware (RAM, SSD, graphics card, etc.) before this started happening?
  5. Does the Caps Lock LED blink, or do you hear any beep codes when the system fails to start?

A few comments:

  • Btw, the SPI flash chip used to store the BIOS is designed for many thousands of erase/write cycles (typically 10,000 or more), so running the HP BIOS Recovery procedure several times is exceedingly unlikely to wear it out.
  • If the BIOS recovery works consistently, the BIOS image itself may be fine. The problem could instead be caused by unstable hardware (memory, storage, graphics), corrupted CMOS settings, or, less commonly, a motherboard issue.
  • Since this began after a BIOS update, it would also be worth checking whether HP has released a newer BIOS version for your EliteDesk 800 G6 Tower. If you're already running the latest BIOS, reinstalling it once using the HP BIOS Update utility can sometimes help if the firmware image became corrupted.

Please post your current BIOS version and the answers to the questions above, and I'll try to narrow down the cause.

Kind Regards,
