BIOS reset on an HP EliteDesk used computer.

Hello all,

I have a question regarding used computers sold on auction sites, mentioned as "BIOS locked". Since some of us want to have control of the BIOS settings (enable/disable features, update BIOS, etc) does it worth to buy one and try a reset method? Replacing the motherboard is an option, but it actually adds additional cost to the whole project.

Some of these machines are mentioned as "still in warranty". Do these machines have a non-cost solution?

Hi:

Never, ever, buy any HP business notebook/PC with a BIOS password.

As of 2019, HP no longer provides the required SMC.bin file to remove the password.

Your only option would be to replace the motherboard with one that does not have a BIOS password.
