HP Pavilion Desktop - 510-p009
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Trying to update from BIOS version F39 to F42 does not seem to work. the START file in the unzipped

routine is not available, so the first line in the BIOS update in the .BAT file does not work, and the 2nd

line ignores it.

Where can I find the START file? It should have been in the .exe zipped file?

Is it part of a sandbox routine?

@backdoc52 -- that Service Pack is listed on HP's web-site:

   HPSBHF03705 rev. 6 - BIOS November 2020 Security Updates | HP® Customer Support

HP Pavilion 510-pxxx (ROM Family SSID 81B4)
Firmware
F.42
SP111548

The important commands in the "FLASH.BAT" file are:

start FWUpdLcl64.exe -F ME_3746.bin -ALLOWSV
start 081B4F42.exe

The "START" command is part of Windows. Enter:  START /?

to get output like: Starts a separate window to run a specified program or command.

checking the HP website for your model system appears to show 3 DIFFERENT bios files for different motherboards

HP should have made this more clear, as people not trained in this field aret going to misunderstand what the page shows

I finally got it to work by changing the batch file, so it directed it to the \SWSETUP\SP111548 folder

to find the executable files. And then it used the old UFI directory for the start, so I had to change the

startup and remove the old Linux boot portion.

But it worked and it now has the new F42 BIOS version.

Thanks for the help.

I did. I checked mine, this is why I provided the details in the subject line.

By the way, I was able to update my Windows 10 to Windows 11,

so I now have a nice working system that should do me well for a while.

The processor may not be supported, but I'll take the chance, since

it has 8Gb memory, and a 2Tb hard drive, so if it fails in future it will

not be worse than staying with Windows 10.
