I feel that I posted this question on the wrong board at first. I bought this computer months ago and haven't set it up yet. My wife mostly stores and edits photos. I want to get a bigger monitor for it but I'm not computer literate. Confused about choices:full hd, uhd, 4K, etc. and what is best for this computer

Hi Ray181,

You're very welcome.

You PC had two options at purchase.

Integrated Intel graphics or a add-in AMD graphics card. What graphics card do you have? It should be listed on the HP purchase invoice. The AMD card is going to give you higher resolution at 60 Hz.

Buying an expensive 4K monitor does not make a difference if your spouse is doing photo editing.

Your PC will support higher resolutions but in your situation the costs of buying a high resolution 60 Hz 4K monitor exceeds the benefits.

It is not needed.

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

The HP specs for your PC show either integrated Intel graphics or a AMD RX 550.

Intel graphics is fine if you are not gaming, or doing CAD, or video editing.

The AMD card supports the following:

  • Rear I/O connectors: DL-DVI + HDMI + DisplayPort
  • Maximum resolution:
    • DisplayPort resolution: 5120 x 2880 @ 60 Hz
    • HDMI resolution: 4096 x 2160 @ 60 Hz

A 2K monitor is fine for storing and editing photos. I still use 2K monitors to game.

How much money do you want to spend and is the ROI worth it?

Thank you for replying.  I don't know the first thing about computers or how they work. When shopping I see the resolutions between full HD and 4K and I'm curious if my computer will support the higher resolutions or if it even makes a difference

I have the AMD 550 graphics card   The higher resolutions monitor are pretty impressive and I'm willing to spend up to 350. I've read reviews were folks have said their computer will not support 4K and I was worried that I might be throwing money away if this particular computer does not support it also

Hi,

Go for it.

Take your AMD graphics card specs to a local seller.

Give the salesperson the specs. The retailer will select compatible 4K monitors that will work with your graphics card.

Thank you very much. I feel confident  in purchasing a 32 inch full HD reasonably priced monitor that will suit our needs very well. I appreciate your help
