Hi @Fxnbaker,
Thank you for your reply
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Laptop PC 15s-fq2000 not booting with the new RAM. It could be due to compatibility issues, improper seating, or even a need to reset certain settings. Let’s go through a step-by-step process to troubleshoot the issue:
Please try the following Troubleshoots steps.
1. Turn off the Unit.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter.
3. Remove any discs from the disc drive.
4. Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.
5. Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.
6. Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
7. Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.
Step 2
Turn off the unit and please press and hold the Windows key + letter B key and the power button together for 30 seconds after 30 seconds, 1st release the power button but keep holding the Windows key and B key for ten more seconds and then release these two keys If done correctly, you will see the display flashing once. Please attempt it thrice as this step and Restart the unit
Step3
The unit has to be turned off, Press Win+ V while holding these two keys then Press the Power button, continue to hold all three keys for 30 seconds and then release the Power button first and then release these two keys Please attempt it thrice and then you may get a Pop-Up CMOS Check and it will restart the unit
Even if you don't get a Pop-up restart the unit manually after 3 attempts.
1. Verify RAM Compatibility
- Check the specifications of your laptop's motherboard to ensure it supports DDR4 3200 MHz RAM.
- Verify the maximum supported capacity per slot and total capacity.
- If the laptop supports DDR4 RAM but only at a lower frequency (e.g., 2400 MHz or 2666 MHz), the RAM may not downclock properly in some cases.
2. Check Seating and Installation
- Ensure the new RAM sticks are firmly seated in the slots.
- Remove the RAM and reinsert it, ensuring the notches on the RAM match the slot correctly.
- Install one stick at a time and check if the laptop boots with just one.
3. BIOS Update
- Your current BIOS version might not support the new RAM. Visit the HP Support website and check for BIOS updates for your specific model.
- Update the BIOS with your old RAM installed and then try the new RAM.
4. Reset BIOS Settings
- With the laptop powered off, remove the battery (if removable) and the power adapter.
- Hold the power button for 30-60 seconds to reset the BIOS.
- Reinstall the battery and try booting with the new RAM installed.
5. Test Each Stick
- Test each stick of the new RAM individually in each slot.
- This can help identify if one of the sticks or a specific slot is faulty.
6. Run Memory Diagnostics
- If the laptop boots with the old RAM, run a memory diagnostic tool to ensure the slots are functioning properly:
- Press Windows + R, type mdsched.exe, and press Enter.
- Choose "Restart now and check for problems" to run the memory diagnostic.
7. Caps Lock Error (3 Slow, 2 Fast Blinks)
- This indicates a memory issue. If you’ve confirmed the new RAM is compatible and seated correctly, the problem might be:
- Faulty new RAM: Test the new RAM in another compatible system if possible.
- Incompatible timing or voltage: Some laptops have strict requirements for RAM timings and voltages. Check the specifications of the Corsair RAM against your motherboard's requirements.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

hi there,
This is my model : HP Laptop PC 15s-fq2000
not sure what to elaborate on apart from when i put the new ram in my laptop lights turn on but my screen is black and my caps lock key blinks 3 times slow and 2 times fast which i know is related to a memory error due to encountering it because of a previous problem which is sorted out now and has been working fine since, when i switch the new ram out back to the old one, the laptop boots no problem without doing a hard restart

hi there, sorry for no response.
I ordered some ram from the same company but with a lower mhz due to the manual saying that 2400 is compatible but it can have 3200 which bridges to 2600 which downclocks to 2400, after trying the new ram of 2400mhz, it boots perfectly fine so must have been an issue with the bridging or downclocking, I appreciate all the help
Many Thanks
