Recently purchased a HP Slim desktop S01-Pf2006a computer. It runs i7 12700 16gb ram with Windows 11 home.  I upgraded the RAM  and had it working fine. I further pulled apart the shell to check what SSD it was running and made no further changes. After putting it back together, on restart it would go to a blank/black screen after the HP logo appeared. I have since spent hours trying to troubleshoot by reinstalling windows and creating restore points. Every time i attempt to upgrade the driver from standard back to Intel UHD 770, it goes to a blank screen. How does one fix this?

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems that the Intel UHD 770 graphics driver is causing issues after installation, leading to a blank screen. Here’s how to resolve this problem:

Step 1: Boot into Safe Mode

Since the system goes blank after installing the driver, booting into Safe Mode will allow you to uninstall the problematic driver.

  1. Force Restart to Access Safe Mode
    • Power on the PC and force shut it down as soon as the HP logo appears (repeat this 2–3 times). This will trigger Windows Recovery Mode.
    • Select Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
    • Press 4 or F4 to boot into Safe Mode.
  2. Uninstall the Intel Graphics Driver
    • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
    • Expand Display Adapters and find Intel UHD Graphics 770.
    • Right-click and select Uninstall device.
    • Check Delete the driver software for this device, then confirm.
  3. Reboot and Check if Windows Uses the Basic Display Adapter
    • If your PC boots normally, proceed to install a stable driver.

Step 2: Install a Stable Intel Graphics Driver

Now, install the correct driver without triggering the black screen issue.

Option 1: Install an Older Stable Driver

  1. Go to HP Support Website for the HP Slim Desktop S01-Pf2006a.
  2. Download the OEM-provided Intel UHD 770 graphics driver.
  3. Install it and restart your computer.

Option 2: Use Intel’s Official Driver (With Safe Mode Installation)

If HP’s driver doesn’t work, try Intel’s version:

  1. Download the Intel UHD 770 graphics driver from Intel’s website.
  2. Boot into Safe Mode with Networking (as described in Step 1).
  3. Install the Intel driver in Safe Mode and restart your computer.

Step 3: Disable Automatic Driver Updates (If Necessary)

If Windows Update keeps installing a problematic driver:

  1. Disable Automatic Driver Updates
    • Open Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings.
    • Under Hardware, click Device Installation Settings.
    • Select No (your device might not work as expected).
  2. Use Group Policy Editor (Pro users)
    • Open gpedit.msc and navigate to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Manage updates offered from Windows Update ```

  • Enable Do not include drivers with Windows Updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
