Hi, I have a 15" Pavilion laptop and I wonder why is the side ventilation hole blocked by some piece of plastic placed inside the chasis (as in the picture).blocked vent gridblocked vent grid

Is it there for purpose? There is no other ventilation window where the hot air could flow.

What is this plastic block?

Regards

Jon

Hi Jon,

I believe your model is a fanless model. It has a low power CPU. So what you actually see blocking the air vent is part of the heatsink.

No FanNo Fan

You can see on page64 of service manual.

Thank you, David, I hear some whispering sound when I switch the laptop on so it must be from the HDD then. Regards Jon

You're welcome Jon.

You could upgrade to an SSD and all sound will be gone. The song " the sound of silence comes to mind" 🙂

All the best,

David

Hi,

yes I want to upgrade to a SSD. The HP guide says that I have to buy SSD board and SSD bracket to install M.2 SSD. I cannot find any shop with these items.

But - is there a problem if I buy normal SATA SSD and replace my current SATA HDD? Why to buy other things (boards, brackets)?

Thanks!

Hi,

Yes, the best idea is to purchase a 2.5" SATA3 SSD such as the Crucial MX500 or similar of your desired capacity and replace the hard drive in the notebook. You could clone the old drive or perform a clean install of the OS on the SSD. No product key needed. You could get a cheap housing for the old drive and use as an external drive.

Example:

https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-External-Enclosure-Adapter-Housing/dp/B06XWRRMYX/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=2...

On page 50 of service manual you can see the steps to replace the drive

Hope it helps,

David
