HP ENVY Desktop PC TE01-1000i (1K4E8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

The page to check the status of the warranty doesn't work. Other sections of HP's site claim the desktop I just bought has an expired warranty. **bleep**?

@TexasFrank,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

I get your frustration -it is jarring to see “expired warranty” on something you just bought. This situation typically depends on where and how the system was purchased.

For example, I picked up an HP Pavilion TP01-3003w via an eBay seller, and the warranty showed up as expired, too. That’s because HP's warranty period starts from the original purchase date from the first authorized sale, not necessarily when you buy it from a third party (like a marketplace seller, refurbished outlet, or warehouse deal). If the seller had the unit in storage or was reselling an open-box item, the warranty might have started long before you received it.

That said, HP can sometimes adjust the warranty start date if you provide proof of your purchase -such as a receipt showing the actual date you bought the PC. You can submit that through their Warranty Dispute page.

As for the warranty status page not working, that might be a browser cache or script-blocker issue. Try clearing your cache or using a different browser (Edge or Chrome usually play nice with HP’s site).

Hope this helps clear the fog a bit. Let me know if you need assistance finding the right support links or filling out the warranty update request.

Kind Regards,

Thanks. That was the response I got from the seller as well. While I understand the situation, I don't think 3rd-party sellers should be advertising the product as "new in the box" with a warranty. It might still be in the box, but it ain't new, and you are misrepresenting the product if I have to go back to the manufacturer and beg to have a warranty I've already paid for re-instated. Thanks again for your response.

@TexasFrank,

If it is the case that the seller advertised your PC with HP warranty, you'll have a case because this company broke "truth in advertising".  If that is the case, let me know.

However, if the implied "warranty" was just some seller warranty, your best option would be to return the PC and getting your money back.

Here's a link to the listing I purchased.

@TexasFrank,

Unfortunately, I can't see it: this message shows on my end:

@TexasFrank,

Thanks for sharing that detail — if the eBay seller advertised a “1-year manufacturer warranty,” then it's fair to assume the system should still be under HP warranty, assuming it was truly new and unused.

Here are a few steps you can take:

  1. Contact the seller – Politely point out the listing’s warranty claim and ask for clarification. If the unit is out of warranty because it was previously activated or registered, they should explain that. If they misrepresented it as "new with warranty," you may be able to escalate through eBay’s buyer protection system.

  2. Check HP warranty status by serial number – Go to HP’s warranty check page and enter your serial number. This will show HP's official warranty start and end dates. If it’s out of warranty, you can try the next step.

  3. Dispute the warranty start date with HP – If you have proof of purchase (e.g., a dated receipt or invoice showing the purchase date from the seller), you can request a warranty start date correction here:

    • Go to HP’s Warranty Check page and follow the steps below:

      Steps:

      1. Enter the serial number of your device and click "Check warranty."

      2. Once the results are displayed, look for a link that says “Dispute this” or “Submit a dispute” (it usually appears near the warranty status if it's expired or incorrect).

      3. Fill out the form and upload your proof of purchase (invoice or receipt from eBay).

      4. HP will review the info and — if the device was indeed sold as new — adjust the warranty start date to match your purchase.

      5. HP may (should IMPO) reset the warranty to begin from your actual purchase date, if the unit was sold as new and the invoice supports that.

If none of that resolves it and the seller is uncooperative, you may still have recourse via eBay’s Money Back Guarantee, especially if the item was misrepresented, as it appears it was!
