HP Pavilion
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently received my HP Pavilion Desktop back from Squaretrade where it was recently repaired. The disc drive was one of the issues that was addressed, where they were able to repair the disc drive's ability to burn and read discs inserted into the machine. Last night I was able to burn a playlist in iTunes to a blank CD to confirm this. Today I tried inserting another CD that I thought had a program installation file on it, that didn't have any sort of labeling on it, but when I tried ejecting the disc the disc drive opened up but no disc was seen in the tray. The PC also doesn't see any disc as having been inserted into the drive. It's like it disappeared into the machine somehow. I remember this happening last year too when I tried inserting a disc, and my father was able to somehow open the computer up to look at it and remove the disc. My father sadly is no longer around, and I'm not incredibly hardware-savvy myself. Does anyone know how to go about removing the disc?20211123_212207[1].jpg20211123_212213[1].jpg20211123_212230[1].jpg20211123_212314[1].jpg20211123_212318[1].jpg

@BowserKoopa , welcome to the Community.

This is not an uncommon situation.  If you don't get the CD pressed onto the spindle tightly it can come off in the computer.  You may be able to carefully shake the computer to get it to come out of the slot.  Otherwise, you will have to open the case to retrieve it.  You may be able to find a guide or video online that will help you open the case.

If I have to open the case to do it, do you know how you open the case on this particular computer? Can't seem to find any luck on Google...

What is the Product Number of the computer? I need this information to review the specifications of it. Please don't furnish the Serial # or other personal information. You can find the Product Number at the bottom of the page when you open HP Support Assistant.

Hi again, I found the video I was looking for, right here: Removing & Replacing Parts | Pavilion 590-a0000 Desktop PC series | HP Computer Service | @HPSupport... It did the trick and I was able to successfully remove the CD and put the case back on. Thanks a lot for the help.
