In HP Support Assistant > Fixers & Diagnostics > Run Hardware Diagnostics > Components Test

Everything is Pass but the computer will freeze up during the CPU stress test. I have run the test a few times at this point and have not been able to pass the 33% mark. Most times the computer won't do anything at all. I have used a few sites online and although I am out of my depth it seems that my CPU is overheating? This is somewhat alarming being that the device is brand new and I am only using it for work and school. Although I have not experienced any issues while in use I am curious why this is happening and how worried I should be.

@Old_geekster thank you for your well-versed response to my issue. Due to the urgency of my specific situation, I ended up contacting HP Customer Support via telephone. We were able to work thru your suggestions as well as perform a systems check in BIOS. We covered a lot of ground and to make a long story short my case requires me to actually send the computer out for repair. It seems the coolant fan for the CPU is malfunctioning, and that is what was causing the computer to freeze while running the CPU stress test. I had run an outside test, as you suggested, using a third-party app and was afraid that my CPU was overheating. Honestly, I didn't want to admit that anything could possibly be wrong because the computer is basically brand new. Loathing return processes I put things off with the excuse of not being able to afford to lose access because I use the device for work. Luckily HP is going to send me a loner computer for the time this will take to repair mine which I am extremely thankful for having.

@bkeithkid , welcome to the Community.

I suggest that you make certain that you have Win 11 fully up to date.  I have had problems with my system crashing while gaming and the updates solved my problem.  It may be that HP Assistant is experiencing problems with Win 11.  Also, you should use a third-party app to monitor the temps of your CPU.

I am glad that you will be getting your computer repaired.  It does happen that new computers can have problems.  Technology is very advanced and sometimes things just happen.  Good luck!
