Hi

I have a Odense2-k motherboard with a G4600 7th gen Pentium and I was wondering If I can upgrade to a Skylake 6th generation LGA1151 processor (i5 6600) or is it only for the 7th generation Kaby lake processors listed on the Odense2-k page?

According to "CPU-UPGRADE" the h170 chipset will work with the older CPU

I assume budget requirements prevent upgrade to  recommended CPUs

There is a possible problem you should think about. It is possible the BIOS will not recognize older chips so you may want to get return permission in case the chip does not work.  One problem (?)  that concerns me.  Your G4600 is  almost same as I3-7100 but  the i3 is unlocked and can run faster.  I noticed (see above) the i3 is only in the "Twister Chassis" and I assume you have the "Twister Chassis".  I have no idea that that chassis is. I assume the CPU is socketed and can be removed and the 65 watts can be handled properly in that "Twister" chassis.

I would wait for the prices to drop and buy the recommended CPU.

Regards!

hi @BeemerBiker  @zombie2907

sorry but ...

Why would you want to install a processor, not indicated compatible, and from more than one previous generation, you have one on hand?
Just precision also, it is mentioned that you with the model

Product: 580-023w
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

off the product page says this

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05638874

it is not the same processor, what is right or not?

Maybe you don't have the means but an i7 would be preferable, depending on your use?

Sorry, I did not know I had the 580-023w model, what happened is I bought the 580-023w power chassis with the pre-existing Odense 2-k motherboard in it, I then had a 7th generation intel Pentium G4600 "2core". I'm wanting to upgrade to a further better 4 core CPU for better multitasking with my GPU, basically I dont have the 1060 3gb or the i5 7400 that was in the product, sorry for the confusion
