I am looking to upgrade my AMD A10-8750 APU to something slightly better such as an Athlon X4 880k.

HP support site says that the motherboard can support up to 95W TDP so this is not an issue, and the socket is the same, but it doesn't list the 880k on the processor upgrades section. Does this explicitly mean an 880k will not work if I were to get one, or is it still a possibility?

I understand that the improvement would be small at best but I am just trying to make the most of the FM2+ socket for now as a short-term . Motherboard is Orchid3.

Any advice on my available options would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

HI

HP has only validated chipset/BIOS compatibility for the processors listed at the motherboard specification site.

The 880k may not work unless there is an HP BIOS update which adds support for additional processors. Check your PC's Software and Driver download site for a BIOS update that references this fact in the "Fixes" section.

Take the chance if you know you can return the 880k for a full refund.
