HP Pavilion Power Desktop - 580-158ng
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I just wanted to ask if it is possible to upgrade the ryzen 3 1200 with a ryzen 7 1700x without replacing the PSU. On the upgrade suggestion tab for my device there is stated the ryzen 7 1700 without x is the possible maximum.

Thank you in advance

Best regards

hi

AMD Ryzen3-1200

  • CPU speed: 3.1 GHz (max turbo boost - 3.4 GHz)
  • CPU cores: 4 (4 threads)
  • CPU Cache (L3): 8 MB
  • TDP: 65 W
  • Socket: AM4

https://support.hp.com/vn-en/document/c05686714

indeed

Processor upgrade information

  • TDP: up to 65 W
  • Socket type: AM4
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
Processor
TDP
AMD Ryzen7-1700 (Summit Ridge) 3.0 GHz, 8 cores/16 threads
65 W
AMD Ryzen5-1600 (Summit Ridge) 3.2 GHz, 6 cores/12 threads
65 W
AMD Ryzen5-1400 (Summit Ridge) 3.2 GHz, 4 cores/8 threads
65 W
AMD Ryzen3-1200 (Summit Ridge) 3.1 GHz, 4 cores/4 threads
65 W

so TDP 95W not possible

Thanks for the reply. So if I upgrade the PSU it will be possible to use ryzen 7 1700x?

HP Recommended

no, that's what I'm telling you, it has nothing to do with the power supply, it's the motherboard that is not compatible
in any case, never seen so far someone who could override this by just replacing the power supply

Hello, thanks again for the reply.

I tried to upgrade it and it did work anyway, because I am not dependend on the Desktop and I really wanted to know if it will work. Due to the higher power consumption I also changed the PSU to a stronger one with 630 Watts and it works perfectly.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying, but

the tdp is not a problem of power, but of temperatures
