HP Slimline Desktop - 270-p003d
Microsoft Windows 11

I would like to ask this desktop has a Lubin Motherboard.
I would like to upgrade the CPU for it for it to be usable again.
I notice it uses

  • Socket type: LGA 1151

Then there is a list of CPU that can be upgraded, but is it possible to use a updated Processors with the same LGA 1151 socket, or i can only use the processors listed on the tech spec sheet? Thanks in advance

@Brandon10075,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

There is a lot you can do to seriously upgrade your HP Slimline Desktop - 270-p003d PC (Z8H30AA).

It depends though, if you are willing to invest the money to go there -so to speak.  If you happen to be less of a 'seasoned' upgrade-savvy DIY-er, maybe you want to consider purchasing a new(er) gaming PC.

However, be careful what you ask for.

Here you go -according to: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c05388861 and: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c05382582, you can upgrade your processor to an Intel Core i7-7700T or an i7-7700.

However, if you want to go all-out, I am happy to report that an i7-7700K is also compatible.  See this reference, for example: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/37626618.  I upgraded a Small Form Factor (SFF) PC with an i7-7700K, and I am glad I did -see my HP EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF upgrade project here: Solved: Upgrading HP EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF - HP Support Community - 8251218.

All right, next: memory.

According to the HP links your PC can be upgraded to 2 x 8GB DDR4 PC4-19200, 2400 MHz, Non-EEC, UDIMM, 288-pin RAM, but Crucial -correctly- confirms you can go as high as 2 x 16GB of the aforementioned RAM.  Make sure you pick RAM that will actually run at 2400 MHz: HP PCs are known to be picky when it comes to RAM speed. Crucial link: https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/hp-slimline-270-p003d.

According to the HP links, your PC is fitted with a Lubin motherboard (SSID: 82F2) which fortunately for you happens to be ATX-powered enabled, meaning, you can/should retire your underpowered 180 watt stock power supply ASAP with any fitting industry standard ATX power supply -I would recommend at least a 650 watt unit for high-end, externally parked GPUs.  Measure your current PSU, then go online and look at the physical dimensions (LxHxW) of a replacement PSU to see if it has the same dimensions -or smaller, or what you can make fit.  Some creative Users managed to fit a slightly larger power supply, but if you are unsure/hesitant to make any chassis modifications, stick with same/smaller dimensional power supplies. Even if the mounting screw(s) don't fit with a replacement PSU, you could use Velcro or even zip ties to secure a new power supply.

Also, your desktop has one M.2 NGFF PCIe Gen3 x4, 2280 NVMe SSD slot.  If you haven't done so already, get one and make it your primary (boot) drive.  Or at least use a SATA Solid State Drive (SSD) as your primary drive.

What other HP Slimline Desktop - 270-p0xx Super Users have been able to do upgrading their rigs, take a look here: https://ww.userbenchmark.com/System/HP-Slimline-Desktop-PC-270-p0XX/54373.

You will see graphics cards such as the RTX 3060, RX 6600-XT, GTX 1070, RTX 2060, etc.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

I have a few questions.

1st is any recommended power supply I can use for it, that’s gonna fit it.

2nd is if upgrading graphics card, besides fitting in a low profile one, there isn’t any that fits anymore right?

thanks!

@Brandon10075,

Based on your preference for a low profile (thus low power) graphics card, here are some examples of power supplies that may fit -as I recommended before: measure your current PSU dimensions and compare against the following power supply unit's dimensions:

1.) Corsair CX-M Series, CX450M, Modular Power Supply, ‎5.91 x 5.51 x 3.39 inches, under $50, such as found here: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-CX450M-Modular-Supply-Bronze/dp/B09HWTHDVZ/ref=sr_1_4?crid=6G2Z3MLXC5....

2.) EVGA 500 W1, 80+ WHITE 500W Power Supply, 5.51 x 5.91 x 3.35 inches, under $37, such as found here: https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-WHITE-Warranty-Supply-100-W1-0500-KR/dp/B00H33SFJU/ref=sr_1_7?crid=1OY9F....

3.) APEVIA SFX-AP400W Mini ITX Solution / Micro ATX / SFX 400W Power Supply, dimension: 125mm x 100mm x 63.5mm (4.92" x 3.94" x 2.5") - L x W x H, under $30, such as found here: https://www.amazon.com/APEVIA-SFX-AP400W-Solution-Micro-Supply/dp/B01MEDG1PM/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1K16A3B....

You get the idea.  Based on your budget and the power supply's dimensions, do your homework and see what works for you.  Do not go below a 400 watt power supply.

The following low profile, low power graphics cards are pretty decent, and should provide acceptable gaming performance. Make measurements inside your desktop case and see if any would fit:

1.) Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1650 OC Low Profile 4GB
Card size: L=166.9 W=69 H=39 mm (w/ low profile bracket)

2.) MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4GT LP 4GB
Card size: 168 x 69 x 37 mm (w/ low profile bracket)

3.) GIGABYTE Radeon RX 6400 D6 Low Profile 4GB
Card size: L=182 W=69 H=36 mm (w/ low profile bracket)

You can get these GPUs online (Newegg, Amazon, etc.).

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
