Hi, I have some questions regarding the maximum upgrade I can make to my PC. My PC model is an HP ProDesk 600 G3 SFF (motherboard version 82B4) with an Intel i3 6100. I wanted to know if it's possible to upgrade it to a 6th or 7th generation Intel i5 or i7. I'd also like to know if it's possible to install an AMD RX 550 2GB SFF graphics card.
My plan is to upgrade (if possible) the processor to a 6th or 7th generation i5 or i7 and install the aforementioned graphics card (or keep my i3 6100 but with the AMD RX 550 2GB) (with two hard drives).

But I'm worried about whether the PC/power supply will be able to handle these upgrades.

  • Sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you 😄

@Loljajas,

Yes, theoretically, you should be able to power a low-profile, single-slot RX 550 with your stock 180-watt power supply, as paired with an i5-6500.

I understand the expense associated with shipping a power supply from the States.  Why don't you check if you can purchase the 310-watt power supply cheaper via AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-L33619%2525252d002.html?g=y&SearchText=L33619-002&sortType=pr....

Kind Regards,

@Loljajas,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

I would most definitely upgrade your processor to an i7-7700K.  This is the very best compatible processor for your system.

[EDIT:] You may be able to power a single-slot, low-profile RX 550 such as this eBay purchase option: https://www.ebay.com/itm/334849959368?_skw=rx+550&itmmeta=01JQM8P84G04K6PXCJ88EM060G&hash=item4df69c..., but given your wish to upgrade your processor, I personally would also recommend upgrading your stock 180-watt power supply with this 310-watt power supply with p/n: L33619-002, which you can purchase for under $30 via this trusted eBay Seller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/393861982999?_skw=L33619-002&itmmeta=01JQM8ZESRV9BHFRN26FJW9NT3&hash=item5b....

This 310-watt power supply's dimensions are [LxWxH]: 20 cm x 5.4 cm x 8.5 cm -please verify that these dimensions are identical to your stock 180-watt power supply.

I think it's possible to use the RX 550, right? (I have the single-slot, low-profile RX 550 2GB).

My original plan was to upgrade to an i5 6500 and use it alongside the graphics card, but I think the power supply would prevent it, if I'm not mistaken, haha. (I'd like to upgrade the power supply, but I can't, and buying it on eBay isn't an option for me since I don't live in the US, and shipping would be very expensive since I live in Colombia.)

Thanks a lot for the reply anyway 😄
