We have a HP Pavilion 550-275ND and uppon booting it presents "511-cpu-fan-not-detected". I checked the fan and even though we get this message, it is running fine. I also cleaned the fan and it's connectors but I still get this error.
The PC is out of waranty and I called HP to order a replacement part but they wouldn't sell it to me and they said I have to buy it from a 3rd party vendor (partnr: 644724-001). Yeah well, I checked a lot of those specialized 3rd party vendors in my country and most of them charge between €75 - €125 ($86 - $143) for a heatsink and the fan. It's not even a fancy one! If I go to any random computer store and ask for a fan for one of those home-build pc's, I get a very fancy fan + huge heatsink for about €30! These HP 3rd party vendors are just plain maffia with their ridiculous prices, how can you allow this HP?
Anyway, does anyone know if there are other fans out there which are compatible with this board/computer? If it was just a regular home-build PC, I was able to replace it very easily but these OEM pc's are sometimes a bit restrictive in what will fit.

your system has several fans one in the power supply, two inside the case, one for the cpu and one attached to the case
simply read the part number off of the failing fan and google that number and you will find lots of venders on ebay/amazon/newegg selling direct replacements
if it's the cpu fan instead of a case fan there is no need to replace/remove the cooler since the fan mounts directly on top of it and is a 4 pin PWM type fan

I know but the error message clearly states it's the cpu fan. All other fans are spinning fine too.
I mentioned the partnr in my startpost and naturally I already Googled that which only gives me @#$% prices. The closest Amazon I have here in Europe is Amazon.de or co.uk and guess what? https://tinyurl.com/y7hzca6l 😉
You sure that Noctua will fit? If that's the case, it will be great.
edit: found some more reasonable prices on Ebay. Unfortunately not in my own country but still in the EU so I guess I'll go for that.

no, YOU don't understand, the part number you provided was for the cooler/fan combo which you do not need
remove the cpu fan, look on the other side (the one that touches the heatsink) and note the fan number, google that number for a replacement fan. do you now understand?
