Hi,
I got an error message that the CPU fan had stopped working and it had. It has a shroud duct on the fan. Do I need a "genuine" HP part or will the shroud snap off. Anything special I should know?
Thanks in advance

This picture does not show a fan shroud. It should just snap off.
Just unplug the fan to verify 3 or 4 pin.
Fans are generic manufacturer. Just avoid the low speed - silent fans, the
RPM of these will trigger a "fault" with the sensor.

I purchased what I thought looked like a replacement fan and it fit perfectly, looks exactly like the original and is sooo quiet. It's a Cooler Master DC12 045A. $22.49 with free shipping. Arrived in a couple of days and it's fantastic!
