Compaq Pro 6300 Microtower
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have an intel core i5-3470 in my HP Compaq pro 6300 microtower. I want to take out that CPU to another motherboard that can support it and place i3-3210 instead. Is that possible without having problems ??? Thanks in advance.

I'm looking at the side by side comparison specs below...

I'm thinking the worst case scenario is you get a processor microcode error, and reinstalling the original processor should work just fine if the i3 doesn't work.

 

I'm not saying it won't work.  I'm saying you are taking a gamble on it.

Below is the link to the quickspecs for your PC's model series.

 

See pp 4-5 for the list of supported processors.

I would say that you would be taking a gamble on that because the i3-3210 is not listed as a supported processor.
