I believe my cpu has fried - likely due to overheating.  I am trying to find out what cpu is in my machine but HP product information does not say, it simply provides information about the possible processor upgrades.  So, how do I find out what processor is in my OMEN desktop/tower - product number 2BX01EA; serial number - 5CC7210327.

Thanks for any help

According to HP's parts Surfer, you have i7-7700k

CPUs have temperature throttling to protect against overheating.  It is likely the motherboard is damaged.   if you purchase a replacement CPU make sure the seller allows returns.
