Hello, I am interested in upgrading my processor on my HP Z420 (LJ449AV). Now I have replaced processors before (for a previous job), but I actually don't know the terminology in order to determine compatilibity with my mother board.
System Information
------------------
Time of this report: 7/11/2017, 14:21:33
Machine name: WIN7PROZ420
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_ldr.170427-1518)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
System Model: HP Z420 Workstation
BIOS: Default System BIOS
Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-1620 0 @ 3.60GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.6GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 8116MB RAM
Page File: 9119MB used, 7109MB available
I also have a NVIDIA GTX 960 GPU.
The motherboard is HP 1589 and the CPU socket is single LGA2011. I am looking to buy an Intel i7 and was wondering if anyone could double check that the one I have picked out is compatible, or can recommend a better CPU. Also, would any cooling need to be added? Or even a change in power supply?
The CPU I'm considering:
Intel Core i7-3930K (BX80619I73930K)

Only the E5 processors are compatible. See the list on pg3.
Please use this to make a test, as the GTX 960 is a UEFI vBIOS card, and you said your system is using BIOS.
