Hello!
I have a Z620 Workstation and I want to upgrade the CPU. I have a 2013 boot block date in the BIOS.
A friend of mine with the same system and a 2013 boot block date upgraded from a E5-1620 to a E5-1660 v2 with no problems. He then bought a E5-2697 v2 and put it in the computer and it wouldn't boot. He tried the old 1660 v2 again and it worked.
My question is; do you have to use two 2697 v2 cpu's in the Z620 to make it work? It is listed in the spec sheet here, but it doesnt say anything about dual socket only. On the Intel ARK page it says "Scalability = 2S". Does that mean dual socket only, or can you use it by itself? I have seen YouTube videos of it running by itself in other motherboards so IDK.
Thanks for the help in advance 🙂

CPU's which are dual socket compatible, e.g. E5-26xx series, can be used in either single or dual CPU configurations. You do not need to run these CPU's as a pair. I note that the E5-2697 v2 CPU is indeed listed in the HP Z620 quick specs as a compatible CPU. NOTE: The list of compatible CPU's is updated via HP BIOS updates so please ensure you have the latest BIOS installed. Please search the forum how to perform a BIOS update safely, especially if you have an older BIOS.

If you have the latest BIOS installed, then I suspect the issue is with the E5-2697 v2 CPU. (SInce the E5-1660 v2 CPU works fine).
