Hi,
I want to upgrade the CPU on my HP Pavilion 21-h116. I have found on HP the following:
Processor
Intel Pentium G3220T
- TDP: up to 45 W
- Socket type: FCLGA1150
- Motherboard supports the following processors:ProcessorTDPIntegrated GraphicsIntel Celeron G1820T (Haswell) 2.4 GHz35 WIntel HD Graphics (GT1)Intel Pentium G3220T (Haswell) 2.6 GHz Dual Core35 WIntel HD Graphics (GT1)Intel Pentium G3240T (Haswell) 2.7 GHz Dual Core35 WIntel HD Graphics (GT1)Intel Core i3-4130T (Haswell) 2.9 GHz Dual Core35 WIntel HD Graphics 4400 (GT2)Intel Core i3-4150T (Haswell) 3.0 GHz Dual Core35 WIntel HD Graphics 4400 (GT2)Intel Core i3-4330T (Haswell) 3.0 GHz Dual Core35 WIntel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)Intel Core i5-4570T (Haswell) 2.9 GHz Dual Core35 WIntel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)Intel Core i5-4590T (Haswell) 3.0 GHz Quad Core35 WIntel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)Intel Core i5-4670T (Haswell) 2.3 GHz Quad Core45 WIntel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)Intel Core i5-4690T (Haswell) 2.5 GHz Quad Core45 WIntel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)Intel Core i7-4765T (Haswell) 2.0 GHz Quad Core35 WIntel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)
Other than buy one of the say last 3 CPU from some source (ebay?) hat else would I need to replace or do if anything in order to upgrade?
I would appreciate any pointers or surces of information. Thanks

@Number3456 --- Is this your current processor:
Intel Pentium G3220T (Haswell) 2.6 GHz Dual Core 35 W
To wisely spend your money, you should choose one of:
Intel Core i5-4590T (Haswell) 3.0 GHz Quad Core 35 W
Intel Core i5-4670T (Haswell) 2.3 GHz Quad Core 45 W
Intel Core i5-4690T (Haswell) 2.5 GHz Quad Core 45 W
Intel Core i7-4765T (Haswell) 2.0 GHz Quad Core 35 W
to upgrade from 2 simultaneous CPUs to 4 simultaneous CPUs.
However, if you use apps that do not simultaneously use more than one CPU,
then your current 2.6 CPU is faster than 3 of the above CPUs.
Before spending any money, open the Windows "Task Manager",
and switch to the "Performance" tag, while running your CPU-intensive app(s),
to see if your current CPU is "maxed-out".
If not, then spending to get a faster CPU is a waste of your money.

@Number3456 , welcome to the Community.
All of the processors that you listed have been fully tested to be compatible with your motherboard. You should be able to upgrade to any of them without changing any other components or settings.
Here are the specs for the last three that you mentioned from Intel:
You can check to see which appears to be the fastest. Personally, I would go with the i7.

Thank you for the tip to run the systems monitor. The software I am running is called WebOMD and I use it in my drone business to generate 2-d and 3-d maps. It pegs out at 100% CPU useage when I run the software and everything is at a crawl and that is being generous. both cores are maxing out.
It looks like the CPU upgrade will be in my near future.
Thank you.

@Number3456 -- you are very welcome.
I think that your best choice is: Intel Core i5-4590T (Haswell) 3.0 GHz Quad Core 35 W
It upgrades you from 2.6 Ghz to 3.0 Ghz, and from dual-core to quad-core.
While I suspect that the internal "engineering" of any "i7" will be better than any "i5", the only "i7" listed above only has 2.0 Ghz cores -- slower ??? than your current processor.
Does the "Task Manager" show a lot of input/output to your disk-drive?
If it does, and if the disk-drive is not an SSD, I recommend that you upgrade, to make the I/O around 5 times faster.
P.S. Please click "Yes" to "was this reply helpful", wherever appropriate. Thanks.

These were the ones that I narrowed down:
Intel Core i5-4590T (Haswell) 3.0 GHz Quad Core 35 W
Intel Core i5-4670T (Haswell) 2.3 GHz Quad Core 45 W
Intel Core i5-4690T (Haswell) 2.5 GHz Quad Core 45 W
Intel Core i7-4765T (Haswell) 2.0 GHz Quad Core 35 W
get the the fastest one you can afford. I ended up with i7 because it was available and affordable. The i5-4590T would have been faster but it was pricey at the time I was looking. I didn’t know any of the processors will make your machine windows 11 compatible. Mine still isn’t but as long as in can get windows updates I am satisfied until I can afford a new unit.
There are others who are way more knowledgeable I hope chime in with their expertise. Just make sure the mother board and chip socket are compatible with your processor. The ones I listed were what HP said was compatible. I would be leery about relying on a single google search for answers unless there are a number of sources that confirm your pick.
I swapped the hard drive for a SSD on the recommendation of one of the folks on this post and that helped speed up processing quite a bit. SSD are cheap too.
Hope this helps.
