I have a HP E27m G4 QHD USB-C Conferencing Monitor connected to a HP Envy Desktop TE01-4000 PC via a HDMI cable.  My desktop does not recognize my camera.  Do I need to connect with a USB C  cable?

Hi @rjloch ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're facing your camera not being recognized on your HP Envy Desktop TE01-4000 PC is likely due to the fact that HDMI cables do not transmit data for devices like cameras. HDMI only carries video and audio signals, not the data necessary for a camera or other USB devices to function.

To enable the camera on your HP E27m G4 QHD USB-C Conferencing Monitor, you will need to connect the monitor to your desktop using a USB-C cable. This connection will allow the necessary data transfer between the monitor's camera and your desktop. Here are the steps to do this:

Obtain a USB-C Cable: Ensure you have a USB-C cable that can connect your monitor to your desktop. If your desktop does not have a USB-C port, you may need a USB-C to USB-A cable or an adapter.

Connect the USB-C Cable:

  • Plug one end of the USB-C cable into the USB-C port on your monitor.
  • Plug the other end of the USB-C cable into a compatible USB port on your desktop. This could be a USB-C port or a USB-A port, depending on the cable and ports available on your desktop.

Configure Settings:

  • Once connected, your operating system should automatically recognize the camera. If not, check your device settings.
  • On Windows, go to Settings > Devices > Cameras to see if the camera is listed.
  • Ensure any necessary drivers are installed. You can check for drivers on the HP support website for your specific monitor and desktop model.

Test the Camera:

  • Open the Camera app or any video conferencing software to test if the camera is now recognized and functioning.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Unfortunately, the USB Type-C port of your desktop PC does not support the required DisplayPort Alt Mode, so it probably will not work.

The Conferencing monitor you have is usually used with Enterprise grade laptops that have the USB Type-C ports that are required.

You can still try it.

Leave the HDMI cable connected between the PC and the display.

Connect one end of a USB Type-C cable to the USB Type-C port on the rear of the monitor and the other end to the USB Type-C port on the source device. (Use only the HP-approved USB Type-C cable provided with the monitor.

Open the camera. See the image in the user manual.

Invoke the Device Manager on your PC to see if the WebCam is present.

You might need to install the driver for the camera. See the driver download page below. Install the OS appropriate driver
