HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-2170m CTO

I made a post on reddit and a guy suggested that I swap out my GTX 1660 Super for a single-fan 4060, he also suggested that I get this intake fan: https://www.amazon.ca/NF-A9-PWM-Bearing-Premium-Quality/dp/B00RUZ059O . Would swapping the GPU and adding a new intake fan be compatible with my desktop? I would also like to know where I can put the intake fan (if I need one).

@99Sashko,

My friend, I looked in the graphics card upgrading for the HP Pavilion Gaming TG01-2xxx platforms a bit deeper, and there is sufficient space available to install any of the dual fan RTX 4060 cards I referenced, as shown by this YouTube guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_QzouzWXXY&t=504s&ab_channel=AlegReviews.

You do not need to remove a piece of your motherboard at all -I am not sure why you think that.

What you can -and should remove, is the so-called "Drive Cage Bracket".  For all intents and purposes, it doesn't really serve an essential purpose to begin with, and by removing it, you CAN install a dual fan graphics card like the RTX 4060:

Obviously, I do not recommend a single fan graphics card if there are dual fan card options available.

And with regards to the power supply: yes, I personally would purchase the 400-watt power supply upgrade, if only to avoid any potential power deficiencies which could potentially damage your GPU or other electronic components in your PC.

Kind Regards,

@99Sashko,

Welcome to our Community forum!

Your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-2170m CTO (3V2Z3AV) as fitted with the Erica6 motherboard (SSID: 8906), is either fitted with a 310-watt or a 400-watt power supply.

Even though theoretically an RTX 4060 (115-watt TDP) could be powered by a 310-watt power supply, I would strongly advise against it.  Rather, if you got a 310-watt power supply, upgrade your power supply with a 400-watt unit, with p/n: L69242-800.  You can purchase this power supply via eBay-Canada.

Now on to a single-fan RTX 4060.  This cooling configuration gets very loud while gaming and runs at higher temperatures than a dual fan model. Undesirable.

I would strongly recommend a dual fan model, such as this purchase option: https://www.amazon.ca/GeForce-DisplayPort-Axial-tech-Technology-Auto-Extreme/dp/B0CVPDY3HN/ref=sr_1_....

With this model, you'll likely don't need to add a cooling fan either.

Thanks for the help, but my pc case is too small for a 2 fan 4060. Also, is there another way to get a 400 watt supply for my pc?

@99Sashko,

Your case is too small?

For starters, what is the length of the red line in your PC:

If it is 22.6 cm you should be OK.  If necessary, you can choose to apply some 'modifications' (responsibly/safely cutting into the drive cage bracket) to make it fit.

What about the width and height? Btw my serial number is : 2MD1284H7D

Also my current GPU uses more power than the single-fan 4060 so like do I really need a 400W?

@99Sashko,

The width and height are no problem whatsoever.

[EDIT:] There is an even smaller dual fan RTX 4060 (19.9cm) available: https://www.amazon.ca/MSI-RTX-4060-Architecture-2X/dp/B0C8BPW1SP/ref=pd_ci_mcx_pspc_dp_2_t_4?pd_rd_w...:

Theoretically, you can power these RTX 4060 cards with a 310-watt power supply, as long as you got one 8-pin PCIe power cable.  If you don't have it, you could use a dual 15-pin SATA to 8-pin PCIe power adapter cable, like this one: https://www.amazon.com/PCI-Cable-15-pin-Express-Adapter/dp/B07FK8SJTV/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2TSCCBH7BLDI2&..., assuming you got two open 15-pin SATA power connectors available.  If you do not, use a 15-pin SATA power splitter cable: https://www.amazon.com/SATA-Splitter-Wire-Power-Cable/dp/B002P6W9YW/ref=sr_1_6?crid=3R9ANSCLOULIB&di....

Hey so I just measured the length of my pc and it reaches 16cm maximumly because if I’ll want to go further, I’ll have to take a piece of my motherboard off so the only thing that I could is buy a single fan 4060.

So I think I’m gonna buy a 4060 with a single-fan, should I buy a 400W power supply with it?
