Hi everyone and anyone.  I have an older PC (Pavilion AIO 24-a220xt) that had Win10 and was so slow and out of MS support so I switched over to Linux.  It works and now I'm interested in upgrading it with an SSD for better performance, as well as a newer internal WIFI/BT card.  I've ordered a Intel AX210NGW WIFI/BT to replace the Intel 3168NGW (hoping it'll work) and now I'm looking to add a M.2 SSD for the OS but want to keep the ST1000LM014 1TB 2.5" SATA for storage.

Will this be able to work?  Down the road when I move on from the Pavilion AIO I'd pull the SSD and use it in another computer but just want to extend its life a few more years.  I have a newer PC (Omen) that does my daily business - the Pavilion will be general browsing and running a few apps so it isn't going to be very beefy and not for gaming.  Thanks for any help that can be tossed my way!

Hi:

I don't see any reason why the Intel AX210NGW card wouldn't work as long as it is the non-vPro version with an Intel SPS # of M27269-005.

Regarding the addition of a M.2 SSD...does not look like you can since your PC did not come with one from the factory.

Here is the link to the parts list for your PC:

HP PartSurfer

It comes with a HP ' Palau-2GF' motherboard.

Here is an eBay listing of the motherboard part number, and as you can see, there is no M.2 slot where there should be (see the M.2 2242 space with no slot to the left of the M.2 2230 Wi-Fi card slot).

OEM HP ALL-IN-ONE 24-B217 24-B200 24-B SERIES MOTHERBOARD DA0N83MB6F0 908895-601 | eBay

You can always replace the hard drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD.

If you would like to run Windows again instead of Linux, if you want to run W11 on your PC, you can.

Make a bootable USB installation flash drive using Rufus and watch this video for how to clean install W11:

How to Install Windows 11 on Unsupported Hardware!

With the hardware your PC comes with, it should work fine.

I'm running W11 25H2 on a HP desktop with an i5-6500T processor.

While you have the PC apart, you may want to add another 8 GB memory chip in the empty slot.

Thanks for the info!  No SSD option will save me money and I think the  existing 1 TB drive is a SATA.  I already have 12GB RAM and the PC will only have occasional basic use so it'll be good enough I suppose.  Good to know about Win11 option, maybe something to take a look at.  My current PC has it and does well enough for my needs and some gaming.

You're very welcome.

Good thing I decided to change my internal WIFI card.  Gave me a chance to check the CMOS battery while the PC was cracked open and it was almost dead.

Glad you were able to discover that problem while you had the PC open.
