Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm looking to add a second M.2 SSD to my PC, as my current one is 250 GB and I'm looking to add another for more storage, optimally 1-2 TB. From what I can tell my PC https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp/hp-envy-desktop-te01-1175xt does have another slot for an M.2 SSD but I would like to confirm this. Two more things that may be an issue one is that I've replaced the 1660 super that the PC came with, with an RTX 3060, and I want to make sure it won't be using any of the slots. The other would be the compatibility of the SSD that I'm looking to install which is the SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS.

To anyone who may be able to help, thank you very much

@Appleshroom,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

It appears not:

Your HP ENVY Desktop - TE01-1175xt (3UR21AA), according to: https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer?searchtext=3UR21AA&searchby=product, and: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06696085, and: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06638240, suggests that your desktop is fitted with a Baker motherboard (SSID: 8767) -please confirm.

A Baker motherboard is only equipped with one M.2 NVMe SSD slot, and one M.2 WLAN (Wi-Fi) module slot:

Unfortunately, according to the specs, a Baker motherboard only has one PCIe x16 slot, and no x4 (or x8) slots which would allow you to install a PCIe to M.2 NVMe SSD adapter.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Thank you for the help, I assume the only way I could upgrade to a larger SSD is by replacing my current one with the M.2?

@Appleshroom,

Yes, that is correct.  You'll need a USB to M.2 NVMe SSD adapter for that, such as this purchase option: Amazon.com: ELUTENG M.2 to USB Adapter M.2 NVME/NGFF Hard Drive USB3.1 Gen2 10Gbps USB to NVME PCI-E..., after which you'll need to clone your old M.2 drive to your new M.2 drive, using the freeware Macrium Reflect Free cloning software.

Do you need any more instructions how to proceed?

The only other question that I have is to make sure the SAMSUNG EVO 970 PLUS is compatible with my motherboard, which is the motherboard that you thought it was. From what I've been able to figure out by myself it looks like it is but I would just like to double-check with you

I also thought of one more thing, the item you sent has listed in the description that its memory storage is 1TB, Does this mean that I can only buy the 1TB version of the SSD or is it just listed as that for marketing

@Appleshroom,

Great questions! (and, btw, there are no 'dumb' questions, only questions that aren't asked).  So, let's first check your motherboard SSID aka 'BaseBoard Product':

Type in system information in your Windows search bar, and click on the System Information App.

You should see something like this:

Look to the right of "BaseBoard Product", and the alphanumerical number you are likely to see is 8767.

Please confirm.

Second, yes, a 2TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2 NVMe SSD is an outstanding drive and definitely compatible with your desktop.   I have one of them installed in my HP EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF:

You can install ANY size M.2 NVMe SSD in your desktop (4TB, etc.), the only limit is your budget.
