Hi Everyone
I've looked and tried researching but I am not entirely sure if it is possible to add a 2.5 SSD to my G2 Z5 Mini Workstation?
I have a 1TB 2.5 SSD that I'd like to add, but I can only see the M.2 in this. I also can't see where the cables would go? I can see 1 slot for the smaller end of the cable, but not for the larger end of the cable for my 2.5 SSD. Would this be compatible?
Image attached:
Is adding a 2.5 SSD even possible for this?
Thanks in advance

the HP quickspecs do show 2.5 drive options, besides the drive you will need the drive carrier
Z2 G5 Mini HDD Carrier Cage, part number 1X5Q2AA/AT
HP approved SATA Hard Drives
500GB SATA 7200 rpm 6Gb/s SFF HDD (2.5") T0K73AA 4
1TB SATA 7200 rpm 6Gb/s SFF HDD (2.5") T0K74AA/AT 4
2 TB SATA 5400 rpm SFF HDD (2.5")
500GB SATA 7.2K SED SFF HDD D8N29AA 4
Z2 G5 Mini HDD Carrier Cage 1X5Q2AA/AT
SATA Solid State Drives
HP 256GB SATA 6Gb/s SSD Y Y A3D26AA/AT 4
if you look at the middle of the left side of your pict you will see the blue sata connector

Yes, if you do not already have an SATA drive you can add a 2.5
this picture shows a single SATA connector
The spec for your system indicates you have room for 2 of the M.2 drives and there is a drive bay available.
If you are not using both of the M.2 slots you would be better off adding an M.2 drive instead of a 2.5 inch one
The m.2 is much faster.

Yes you can, but you must purchase the kit see page 12 of the manual.

the best thing to do is to put an additional M.2, they are faster and more efficient.

Could I theoretically have the M.2 I have now, an additional M.2 and a 2.5 SSD?
Also, does the blue SATA port require a cable that goes into that, and then has both the SATA and Power for the SSD end, if this makes sense?

In theory you can have those 3 disks, but in my opinion if you need space there are M.2 disks that are 4 TB, why spend money on the kit to be able to put the SATA disk, the kit should cost more than the disk itself.
