The slots look similar, but the pin layout for an M.2 slot is different. Plus, I don't think the SSD would enough space to fit with the SATA ports in the way.

In short, M.2 replaces the mini card (mSATA) slot so the answer is probably a no.

What about this possiblity? in my new post?

@TomMilner,

The available adapter cards are m.2 SATA.    Not NVMe.

@TomMilner.

I guess that would work. M.2 with NVMe drives do operate on the PCIe bus, but I've noticed that on the spec sheet for the IPISB-CU motherboard, the PCIe expansion slots are all Gen 2.0, which means that you won't be able to achieve maximum speeds with this SSD due to bandwidth limitations. I would also like to ask what SSD you have just to confirm my suspicion.

In addition, if possible, get a better adapter.

EDIT: Actually, the bandwidth limit is higher that the maximum data transfer rate of the fastest NVMe SSD in the world (5GB/s read), so you can use that adapter card since the limitation is 8GB/s.
