HP PAVILION - 595-P0074
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought a new graphics card for my Pavilion 595 P0074, and it needs a new power supply.  I understand you can only use proprietary PSU's from HP, but I wanted to know if I can upgrade from the L08261-004 PSU to the L04618-800.  Does it have the right connectors?

If not, is there a way I can upgrade the PSU to have at least 350W?  Or am I better off getting an new computer?

Hi @NathanielV,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

Thanks for your patience! Here's what I found regarding your HP Pavilion 595-p0074 and the PSU upgrade:

Yes, you can upgrade from the L08261-004 (180W) to the L04618-800 (310W) power supply — but with important conditions:

  • Both are proprietary HP PSUs, designed for compact HP desktops.
  • The L04618-800 is used in higher-end HP Pavilion and Envy models and includes the 6-pin PCIe connector needed for many entry-level to mid-range GPUs.
  • Form factor and connector compatibility are generally maintained across HP’s proprietary PSU line, but you must confirm:
    • The physical dimensions fit your case
    • The motherboard connector (typically 6-pin or 10-pin proprietary HP) matches
    • The GPU connector (6-pin or 8-pin PCIe) is present

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved, and if you feel this reply was helpful, click “Yes”.
