My new computer came with the HP510 wireless keyboard & mouse combo. After purchase, I found out the keyboard is not backlit and the mouse is too big for my hand. I replaced the mouse, which worked fine, but then the keyboard stopped working! How can I at least use my replacement mouse until I get another keyboard? Or will a new keyboard even work?

Hi @Zea14,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your keyboard and mouse!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
The HP510 wireless keyboard and mouse combo operates through a single USB receiver, which typically pairs with both the keyboard and mouse. If you replace either the keyboard or mouse, it might affect the connectivity of the remaining input device with the combo’s receiver. Here’s what you can do to resolve the issue:
Using a Replacement Mouse
Check USB Receiver Compatibility:
- When using a separate replacement mouse, ensure that it comes with its own receiver or is compatible with Bluetooth if your computer supports it.
Connect the Replacement Mouse:
- Plug in the new receiver for your replacement mouse (if applicable).
- Make sure your computer recognizes the mouse and it's working properly.
Keyboard Functionality:
- Since the original HP510 keyboard is paired with its receiver, using another mouse might impact its connection. If the keyboard is not working, re-pair it with its original USB receiver, if possible.
Replacing the Keyboard and Mouse
If you plan to replace both the keyboard and mouse, it is generally better to select devices that come with their own receivers or use Bluetooth technology:
Choose New Devices:
- Select a keyboard and mouse that suit your preferences, ensuring both fit your comfort and usage requirements. Models with individual receivers or Bluetooth-enabled options will offer more flexibility.
Separate Receivers:
- If you replace the whole combo, each device should ideally have its own USB receiver unless you choose a combo with a unified receiver designed for both new devices.
Installation:
- Follow the setup instructions for your new peripherals, ensuring each is properly paired with its receiver or Bluetooth connection in your system settings.
I hope this helps.
