@drakesuno,

Welcome to our peer-to-peer HP Community Forum!

Yes, you can. For example, say you got an HP OMEN 25L GT15-1104 (Product+Datasheet (bbystatic.com)) fitted with an i3-13100F (TDP: 110 watt) which has an FCLGA 1700 socket.

Not only could you upgrade to an Intel i5, but also an Intel i7, and even an i9: https://www.eatyourbytes.com/socket/FCLGA1700/.

Please Note: whatever LGA 1700 processor you choose, watch its TDP! For example, an i7-13700F has a max turbo TDP of 219 watt -meaning, you'd likely have to upgrade your CPU cooling.

This Intel i5 processor, an i5-12400 (6-Cores, 12-Threads, 2.50 to 4.40 GHz) has a max turbo power TDP of 117 watt and would meet what you are asking for.

Hope this was helpful.

.@Nonsequitur777,

@drakesuno,

Should be plug-and-play.  No sweat.  Your desktop may beep once or twice upon start-up, but it should recognize a compatible processor just fine without doing anything.

What you could do -should do, actually, is to make sure you got the latest drivers/software updates both for Windows and for your desktop.  In order to do the latter, go to your desktop's update software/driver link -for example: OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop PC GT15-0000i Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Customer Support, and let HP scan/update any available updates for you.
