Hi, i own a hp DC 5850 micro tower pc.
It has a AM2 socket, just AM2 not AM2+.
I would like to know, if I can upgrade to an Am3 Cpu because I've read online that it's very much possible but limited. I have updated to the latest bios.
I have checked the pc, with a program called CPU-Z. Is shows that I have an Am3 processor inserted despite it being a AM2 socket.
Current cpu: AMD Athlon II x4 620 / propus / 96.9w / socket am3 (938)
Current motherboard: hawlett-packard 3029h
Current ram: ddr2 single channel 4gb (nb 1994.9 MHz) (ddram 399.0 MHz)
The cpus I consider:
AMD Athlon64 x2 6400+ black edition 2x3,2ghz (am2)
AMD phenom II x4 960 4x3.3ghz (am3)

I know about the list of supported cpu's on the official site. Then how do you explain the one I have inserted right now? It's a different socket, it's not on the list, and it works fine. Doesn't that mean that other cpu's will work, even if they're not on the compatibility list? As long as they are Am2/am3 socket cpu's.
