Welcome to our HP Community forum!
Your HP EliteDesk 705 G4 MT as fitted with a Ryzen 3 2200G uses integrated Radeon Vega 8 graphics, which dynamically allocates VRAM from system memory (RAM). However, the amount of VRAM assigned is limited by BIOS settings and Windows' automatic memory allocation.
Can you increase VRAM beyond 512MB?
- BIOS Settings:
- Check the BIOS for an option to manually allocate more VRAM.
- Some HP BIOS versions allow adjusting the VRAM up to 2GB, but many OEM systems lock it to 512MB or 1GB.
- Windows Dynamic Allocation:
- Even if the BIOS only allows 512MB, Windows can allocate more memory as needed.
- Since you have 16GB of RAM, Vega 8 may use up to 2GB dynamically in gaming scenarios.
Will this improve gaming?
- Increasing VRAM alone won’t significantly boost performance since the Vega 8 GPU is still limited by processing power and memory bandwidth.
- Dual-channel RAM (2x8GB) is important for best performance, as Vega 8 relies on system RAM speed.
- If gaming is your goal, consider adding a dedicated GPU (e.g., GTX 1650, RX 6400) instead of increasing VRAM.
- If your PC is powered by the 250-watt power supply, consider upgrading it to the 400-watt unit with p/n: 942332-001 / L04618-800 / L76557-001 / L29870-001 for additional graphics card options up to an RTX 4060.
Steps to Check and Adjust VRAM:
- Restart and enter BIOS (Press Esc/F10 on boot).
- Look for Advanced Graphics or UMA Frame Buffer settings.
- If available, increase the VRAM allocation.
- Save changes and reboot.
If no BIOS option exists, Windows will dynamically manage VRAM, so ensure you have the fastest dual-channel RAM available for better performance.

You can't increase the dedicated VRAM of the HP EliteDesk 705 G4 MT with a Ryzen 3 2200G because its integrated Radeon Vega 8 graphics use shared system RAM. The BIOS likely doesn’t allow manual VRAM adjustments. However, you can improve gaming and video performance by lowering game settings, updating drivers, and using faster RAM. For a significant boost, adding a dedicated graphics card is the best option, but you need to ensure compatibility with your system’s power supply and form factor.
