I currently have a i3 2100 CPU on this computer but would like to upgrade to a i5 2400, is it possible? I checked and they have the same socket. I never upgraded CPU so it's why I ask.

Hello, in order to say for sure whether the new processor will be compatible with your build, we need to check the motherboard's model number and study its specifications. However, as you pointed out, these processors have the same socket, so there won't be any physical compatibility issues. As far as the software level is concerned, as far as I know, the microtower hp compaq 6200 pro was shipped with two types of processors - Intel Core i5 and Intel Core i3.
Also, in the technical maintenance manual, I found the following information on compatible processors
Intel Core i5 processors
2500, 3.3 GHz, 6-MB L3 cache, 95W Spare part number 638631-001
2400, 3.1 GHz, 6-MB L3 cache, 95W Spare part number 638630-001
Intel Core i3 processors
2120, 3.3 GHz, 3-MB L3 cache, 65W Spare part number 638629-001
2100, 3.1 GHz, 3-MB L3 cache, 65W Spare part number 638628-001
So I think, with a high degree of probability, you won't have any problems installing the specified processor. Note that the I5 processor will require slightly more power, so make sure that your power supply and cooling system can handle the increased demands.

Hi:
Yes, it is possible.
See page 6 of the HP Quickspecs at the link below, where it shows that the i5-2400 processor is supported.
HP Compaq 6200 Pro Series (newegg.com)
Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the processor removal and replacement procedure.
See chapter 7.

Thank you for the reply! I bought a Core i5 2400 3.1GHz version for my desktop. I'm just waiting for the CPU to come. Also thank you Paul for the links to the manual, I keep losing track of these!
