Can I upgrade to the Ryzen 3600 or 5500 on the HP 705 G5 SFF?

Hi,

I would like to know if I can upgrade my HP 705 G5 SFF from the Ryzen 3400G Pro to the regular Ryzen 3600 (or even the Ryzen 5500 since it is a different series)?

I saw that TDP is the same, but I don't know if the non-Pro version is locked by the BIOS or whether it has compatibility issues or not.

As I understood, I would also need a separate Graphics Card because the non-G doesn't have a GPU.

I would buy any entry GPU, since I don't really need a good one.

If either the Ryzen 3600 or the 5500 are compatible, would I also need to upgrade my power supply and/or processor fan?

My power supply says Max Power of 180 Watt and the processor fan is the regular bulky one that came with the PC itself.

Welcome to our HP Community Forum!

The best processors compatible with your HP EliteDesk 705 G5 Small Form Factor would be the Ryzen 9 PRO 3900, Ryzen 7 PRO 3700, or the Ryzen 5 PRO 3600.

Since these processors don't have integrated graphics, and given your 180-watt power supply limit, I would recommend a Radeon R7 430 or a GT 1030 for a discrete graphics card.  You can get one of these cards super inexpensively via eBay.

I am asking about the Ryzen 3600 and the 5500 because they are much more readily available here on the market for good prices. Do you happen to know if these are also compatible?

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like those processors are compatible with your desktop.  None of the HP System EliteDesk 705 G5 SFF Users here are seen with one of them installed.

I certainly see what you mean: the AMD Ryzen 5/7/9 PRO 3x00 processors are difficult to get and/or are obscenely priced.  "Market forces", I suppose.

Right at this moment, I would suggest you take a look at this AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 3700 eBay offer for $110: AMD AM4 Ryzen 7 PRO 3700 8-Cores 16-thread 3.6GHz | eBay: honestly, if I had your desktop, I would give this some serious consideration.
