HP TOUCHSMART 520-1101ED
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I own my HP TOUCHSMART 520-1101ED already for more then 6 years, and now i would like to replace my current Hitachi HDS721010CLA630 1TB with a SSD drive, as these are much quicker, which would upgrade and improve my Touchsmart a lot.

Has anyone experience with this? Is it possible to have a SSD drive replace the by default installed SATA drive?

Do i need to use a converter connecting the SSD drive into this Touchsmart system? Is there a user guide available explaining what is needed, and what SSD drive can i best purchase for replacement?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Tuxx.

Yes you can upgrade its current SATA 1TB HDD to SATA 1TB SSD and you need a caddy to convert 2.5" SSD to 3.5" format. The folloiwng link shows many handy  manuals for your machine

Since it is a bit old, its storage controller won't give you full speed benefit of a new SSD. I would recommend to use Samsung 850 Evo series SSD.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and advice on the topic, i really appreciate this.

It does raise other questions i would like to receive your opinion on if possible.

You mention that because the system is a bit old, the storage controller will not give the full speed benefit of a new SSD.

I do understand this, but do you maybe have an indication for the speed i will gain upgrading my HD to SSD instead of leaving it as it is? What % of speed gain can i expect?

New 1TB Samsung 850 Evo series SSD cost here around 250 - 300 euros, and that's without caddy to convert 2.5" to 3.5", i don't know the cost of that.

It's more a question of what should i still invest in upgrading my old system, which still functions very well, and what can i  expect from this upgrade investment.

Thanks in advance for thinking with me.

Regards,

Tuxx
