Hi.
I was wondering if i could upgrade my dekstop pc?
I got the 45L case, from like 2020, with AM4, R9 5900X etc. installed. I know i have to switch to a AM5 mb etc, but i was wondering if someone knows if the case support the newer motherboards? I’m not that into tech and specs, sorry if its a dumb question, but i was told it was a good case for future upgrading.

Hi @RemR,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
No worries, that's not a dumb question at all! The OMEN by HP 45L case is quite a spacious and versatile chassis, so upgrading to an AM5 motherboard should be feasible with a few considerations. Here’s a breakdown.
- Motherboard Compatibility: AM5 motherboards are generally larger than AM4 boards (depending on the model), but the OMEN 45L case is designed to support a wide variety of motherboard sizes (including ATX, micro-ATX, and E-ATX). As long as you pick a motherboard that fits these sizes and has AM5 support, you should be good to go.
- Cooling: The AM5 platform will likely require different CPU cooler mounting due to changes in socket design. If you're keeping your R9 5900X cooler, make sure it has an AM5-compatible mounting bracket. Some coolers will include adapters for both AM4 and AM5.
- Power Supply: Make sure your power supply has enough wattage and the correct connections for the new AM5 motherboard, especially if you upgrade to a more powerful GPU or plan on overclocking. The power supply in your 45L should be sufficient for most upgrades, but double-checking won't hurt.
- I/O Ports and Front Panel Connections: Sometimes front panel connectors can vary slightly between cases and motherboards. Check the AM5 motherboard's manual to ensure compatibility with your case’s front panel connectors (USB, audio, power/reset buttons, etc.).
So, to summarize: yes, you should be able to upgrade to an AM5 motherboard, but just double-check these factors.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
