My pc is HP Pavilion TG01 R5-5/8/512/1660S
Ive been crashing a lot lately, cause Ive had too many programs open (only like 3). I averagely use 70% of my ram just by using Chrome alone or Discord. I feel like if I were to upgrade my RAM from 8 GB to 16 GB. But Im curious if my pc can handle it.
Specs:
Graphic Card: GeForce GTX 1660
Storage: 512GB
RAM: 8GB
Power Supply: 310W
Windows 11

Hi @LeonDevz
Welcome to the HP Forum.
HP makes a lot of TG01 PCs. The TG01 MBs I have looked at provide two memory slots and can support up to 32 GBs of RAM.
8 GBs of RAM is gonna cause some performance issues. Windows will usually swap out to the system drive when you run out of RAM. Plus your PC probably has a very fast 512 GB M.2 NVME drive.
So you may have a different problem if the PC locks up, or blue screens, or shuts down and restarts.
Please provide more details on what happens when the PC crashes. Adding more RAM may not solve this problem.
Solve the crashing issue first, then add more RAM.
Crucial Memory would be the best option for your MB. Use the memory scanner.
I would suggest buying a two stick 8 GB or 16 GB kit providing 16 GBs or 32 GBs of total memory. Mixing HP memory with Crucial memory may cause some issues. Your chioce.

Oh, it the screens just gets dark for like 5 seconds and then almost all programs get closed. Not really a full restart. Sorry for not going in detail on that.
What did u mean about the "Mixing HP memory with Crucial memory may cause some issues." cause you got me worried.
Thanks for the reply.

Hi @LeonDevz
That symptom suggests you have a problem. What programs shut down?
I would run HP diagnostics at startup to check hardware.
Start the PC. Repeatedly tap the "ESC" key. Select "F2".
Run system and component tests.
Make sure all Windows updates are installed. Update the graphics driver.
It would not hurt to check system files.
Open an Admin command prompt. Enter "Command Prompt" in search. Select run as administrator.
Run the following commands, one at a time:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Then run:
sfc /scannow to verify system files are okay.
You might be able to mix HP factory memory with Crucial memory. Or you might have a problem with memory speed or the PC may not POST. Just saying it is best to use identical memory to avoid memory incompatibility issues.
