I can't update my BIOS

I can offer the following limited advice / information...

There are four choices.

Are you using the right BIOS update file?

The question is rhetorical - check to see which BIOS your system is using now to help you determine which BIOS is correct for your machine.

Your support website:

HP ENVY Desktop - 750-247c - Software and Drivers, BIOS and Firmware

Examples - at this writing

HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2B2C)

A0.17 Rev.A14.7 MBMay 14, 2018Download

HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2B47)

A0.20 Rev.A15.1 MBMar 4, 2018Download

HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2B4B)

A0.59 Rev.A15.9 MBFeb 12, 2018Download

HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2B52)

A0.14 Rev.A6.0 MBMar 7, 2017Download

and / or

It also may depend on how far behind you are.

Example

HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2B2C)

If you are trying to update to A0.17 (current at this writing) but your BIOS level is at A0.11, you may not be able to make the leap from the very old BIOS to the latest.

If that is the case, I suggest that you update one level up from your current and see if that works.

What to do?

Check Current BIOS version

Control Panel > icon view > Administrative Tools > System Information

System Summary - Check the information next to BIOS Version / Date

Reminder – Manually Update the BIOS

How to install BIOS Updates:

Always connect the computer to AC Power and leave the power connected during the entire BIOS update procedure.

How to / Help

HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS (Basic Input Output System)

HP Desktop PCs - Updating the BIOS (Basic Input Output System)

Select the option to manually install the BIOS update.

Thanks. Found out the BIOS is current, even if it is almost 4 years old. Funny, my HP printer can detect non HP printer cartridges and that in plain English, but the PC diagnostic software can't tell me in plain English that my BIOS is current.

You are welcome.

I have been using computers for long enough that I remember when computers communicated with lights (ack / nak). Details were gleaned by listening to the disk heads moving in particular patterns.

Having a computer tell you anything at all means someone had to teach the computer to do so.  Sometimes the the lessons (programs) fall short of the wishes of those who actually use the machines.

It will get better - always does.

Happy computing.
