OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-1000i
Microsoft Windows 11

I actually do own this, but I hadn't registered my computer until today, and it's taking time for that to ripple through the system.

I bought some G.Skill memory sticks to upgrade from 32 GB to 64 GB, but I can get the system to boot at the XMP profile.

The sticks are DDR5-5600 CL28-34-34-89 @ 1.350 V.  The fastest I can get the system to boot at are 4800 40-40-38-77.

I have tried voltages from 1.100 V to 1.35V.

The sticks are in the same two slots as the original memories that came from the factory (Kingston DDR5 16 GB x 2 XMP5-5200-UA0-1010-XT) that would run at 5200 42-42-42-82) that would run fine using the Omen Gaming Hub overclock utility when I turned that on (I don't recall if I ever booted from the BIOS directly at this speed - but I do know I ran the memories at this speed vis the Omen Gamin Hub).  And of course, HP disabled this feature if I'm not using factory sticks.

I have interacted a couple of times with G.Skill, and of course, they are now saying they've done all that they can do.

Can anyone on this forum (especially HP people) help me find the secret to getting these sticks to run at closer to their ratings?

Thank you in advance!

Greetings @Space_case

I thought 45L MBs did XMP or DOCP/EXPO.

The G.SKILL memory would not run at 5200 MT/s if your PC's BIOS can't do XMP. And, it appears you also can't tweak memory speed using Omen Gaming Hub.

@NonSequitur777 might have alternative memory upgrade options for your PC if any are available.

Hi Bill_To.

The 45L does accept XML and it's one option in the BIOS.  It lets me select it for this new memory and populates everything, but it won't boot.

I have to back off of that to get my system to boot (or start with the default and slowly pick faster speeds) - either way, the best I can get it to boot is at the speeds I mentioned.

@Bill_To,

As mentioned, countless times, HP computer platforms are finnicky when it comes to RAM and achieving max RAM speeds.

There got to be a way to get the OP's RAM to run faster, like this OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop GT22-1xxx User is able to do with 2x32GB of Kingston Fury Beast (KF560C40BB-32) running at the eye-watering speed of 6000 MHz: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/63330517:

Fact is, somebody knows 'the secret', but it is not published for all to see/know...

I've been very disappointed by this HP purchase.  While it's done what it was supposed to do, upgrades have been nearly impossible for various reasons.  I've bought components all my life and built custom systems before.  This purchase I felt like at first, I just wanted it work well as purchased, which is has.

But as I've tried to upgrade it for various reasons, it's been the worst experience I've ever had with a PC.  I will never buy an HP or recommend one in the future.  It's crazy that "somebody knows 'the secret', but it is not published for all to see/know."

The BIOS options are limited, and just like the OMEN Desktop Hub losing its ability to tweak DRAM settings if you don't have their favorite stock parts in there, it seems that they have done everything they can to NOT help the very customers that bought the system in the first place - in fact to the point of crippling the options that otherwise might be there with an Asus or MSI or whatever.

Replacing two 16 GB sticks that were stock with two more 32 GB sticks *****SHOULD BE***** such a simple thing, and yet what I'm finding is that it's literally impossible to configure and get working.

Deep sadness and disappointment...

Thanks for your replies!

Greetings @Space_case

Th 45L case is super upgradable using after market components.

Do a new MB.

The new G.SKILL RAM will do XMP if it is on the replacement MB's "Qualified Vender's List".

@Space_case,

I do understand your frustration, but please note that when I said: "somebody knows 'the secret', but it is not published for all to see/know", it was intended as tongue-in-cheek. To do this day, I am hoping that HP Inc. will change its course for all the reasons you touched upon and more...

Ha!  That's actually an interesting idea that I hadn't thought about.  MBs are relatively inexpensive.  I'll look into it.

The problem I might have, "... if you give a mouse a cookie..." (Google it if you don't know the metaphor), I might want to upgrade CPU too.  And then what's next?

Thanks for your response and suggestion!
