Am I right in the assumption that I can't upgrade my RAM to 3200 MHz, my desktop being restricted to 2666 MHz?
If so, does that mean that I can't use 3200 MHz RAM in my computer at all? I have some that I would like to put in.

Hi:
What model processor does your PC come with?
If it comes with an Intel 8th or 9th generation core processor, the maximum speed the processor will run the memory at is 2666 MHz.
You can install a compatible DDR4-3200 memory chip, but it will only run at 2666 Mhz.

You're very welcome.
My understanding is that if you don't install an identical memory chip part number that was used in your PC, it may actually run at a slower speed than 2666 MHz.
Crucial indicates that the memory they have listed is compatible.

The memory chip that HP installed in your PC according to the parts list has this part number:
L40877-800 | Memory - GNRC RAM UDIMM 8G DDR4 1.2V 2666 HS |
L40877-800 - Hewlett-packard (HP) - Memory - RAM Udimm 8GB DDR4 1.2v 2666 HS | Impact Computers

Since the motherboard doesn't support processor upgrades beyond the Intel 9th gen core processors, and those run at 2666 MHz, in this case you could say that either or both are limiting the memory speed to 2666 Mz.
