HP Pavilion 23-b130z
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm looking to upgrade and install a SSD in an old HP Pavilion 23-b130z.  The hard drive is connected via a SATA interface but when I looked up SSDs on Crucial's website it states "Your computer does not support an internal SSD".  I called Crucial Support and they acknowledged the PC could not support an SSD and to contact HP Support for technical reason.  Well, I thought I would start with the HP Community to see if anyone has upgraded this particular model with a SSD?  Is it the motherboard that doesn't support an SSD device?  I'm just looking for a technical reason why an SSD isn't supported since I watched a Youtube video which showed installing a SSD in a HP Pavillion 23 which internally looked like the 23-b130z.  Unfortunately, the video did not show boot up of the PC, just the physical hardware change.

You're very welcome.

I see no problems with a 2.5" SSD working in your PC.

Supposedly the AMD A75 FCH chipset your PC has even supports SATA III (6.0 GB/S) drives.

You can run the free utility that I zipped up and attached below to confirm that.

I see the biggest obstacle to the upgrade being how to mount the drive, and that is only because they make so many different kinds of adapters that I can't tell you which one would work.

I used this one in on of my HP business desktop PC's.  I found it to be the most versatile and even so, I had to Dremel the thinner crossbar off that you see in the top of the illustration, so I could connect the SATA power and data cables.

Hi:

I don't know what physical size hard drive your PC has.

If it is the standard 3.5" desktop hard drive, you would need a 3.5" to 2.5" hard drive mounting bracket that would work for your PC's specific setup.

Otherwise, I see no reason why a 2.5" SSD wouldn't work in place of what you have now.

Thank you so much for the quick response Paul!  I agree with you.  I see no reason why a 2.5" SSD wouldn't work unless there is, I'm guessing, some limitation of the Ackee-U motherboard or AMD A75 FCH chipset.  The present physical hard drive is 500GB and plan to replace with a Crucial MX500 500GB SSD using a 3.5 to 2.5" adapter bracket in the 3.5" hard drive bay.

Here is link to the motherboard specs in case it helps.  Let me know if you see something I might be missing.

Thanks again Paul!  I've downloaded the utility and updated to latest version.  Good stuff!  Much appreciated.

I'm going to use the Crucial 3.5" to 2.5" adapter bracket.  The SSD needs to be positioned to the right within the HD bay enclosure in order to align with the fixed SATA connection in this model AIO PC.

Again, I really appreciate all the help you have provided.
