HP Notebook - 14-dq0002dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

It's recommended to replace with 8GB. But I read on a Best Buy review, someone said they used 16GB DDR4. Is this possible. Would it work?

"16GB DDR4 Sodimm Ram works in this laptop just fine Just remove the 4GB stick and replace with new ram. It's a single slot if I recall."

Hi:

It could be possible, but it goes against all of the established specifications.

The processor specs from Intel indicate the max memory is 1 x 8 GB.

Intel Celeron Processor N4020 4M Cache up to 2.80 GHz Product Specifications

The HP service manual indicates the max is 1 x 8 GB (see chapter 1).

Maintenance and Service Guide HP 14 Laptop PC

The Crucial memory report indicates 1 x 8 GB is the max.

You can do this to see if it would be feasible to install a 16 GB chip in your notebook:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

If you want to experiment with a 16 GB memory chip, then this is the one I recommend:
