I recently bought 2 x 16gb ram 3200mhz sticks that ran initially at 2666 yesterday and today are running at 1330mhz (speccy). The sticks that came with the pc (2 x 8gb) ran at 3200mhz. I entered the bios menu but there was no advanced tab. According to google the settings for xmp profiles is supposed to be there. Bios F.24. How do i unlock the advanced tab?

Hi @Frankav8,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
t seems like you're facing a few common issues with memory configuration on your HP OMEN 25L Desktop, specifically involving RAM speeds and BIOS settings. Let's break down the steps to potentially resolve these:
BIOS Access and Advanced Settings: Many OEM manufacturers like HP often limit access to advanced BIOS settings on their computers to prevent users from making changes that might potentially harm their systems. Unfortunately, this means that enabling certain features like XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) might not be directly accessible through your BIOS.
- HP BIOS Updates: First, ensure your BIOS is up-to-date. HP occasionally releases updates that might enhance or modify available settings. You can check for BIOS updates on the HP support website by entering your model number and reviewing the available software downloads.
- Unlocking Advanced BIOS: Generally, it is not recommended to try to unlock advanced BIOS settings on OEM PCs due to the risk of bricking your machine or voiding warranties. However, users sometimes discuss methods online involving third-party software or BIOS modifications; these methods carry risks and are not officially supported by HP or other manufacturers.
Memory Speed Issue: The issue with your RAM running at 1330 MHz in Speccy is likely not an actual reduction in speed but rather a reporting style. DDR (Double Data Rate) RAM reports at half its effective speed because it effectively doubles the data rate per cycle. Thus, 1333 MHz would actually mean it's running at an effective speed of 2666 MHz. Since your RAM initially ran at 2666 MHz and should run at 3200 MHz, the issue here seems to be with enabling the XMP profile or a similar setting to reach the rated speeds.
Enabling XMP or Equivalent:
- Since you've noted that there isn't an option in the BIOS as expected, this might be due to the restricted BIOS settings in the HP system. If XMP settings are not visible or accessible and there are no advanced settings available, you might be limited to the speeds that the motherboard sets by default, which often targets stability over performance.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
