I succesfully installed additional memory into my system.  Upgraded from the original 8GB (1x 8GB chip) to 16 GB (2x8GB Chips) All works fine.  The additional memory is recognized by the hardware and the OS and all systems are GO !  When I run CPU-z and other like utilites, they are unable to read the memory spd information.  Whats up with that?????  Can anyone offer a solution to displaying this information and perhaps why HP and Lenova (per info on web)  appear to hide this information?

@ralph9634 , welcome to the forum.

I am not certain why CPU-Z is not able to display the SPD information for your memory, but I do know that it is not because of anything that HP has done.  The SPD information is put into the memory by the manufacturer of the memory; Micron, SK Hynix or Samsung.  Here is the SPD information on the memory in my HP loaner Omen 880-160se:

The memory is installed in Slots 2 and 4.

I suggest checking to see if you have the latest version of CPU_Z.

I understand that the spd information resides on an eeprom located on the ram chip itself.  neither CPU-z  or RAMMon utilities can access the spd informaton.  CPU-z does recognize the presence of my memory chips.

my chips are from crucial.

Thank you for the additional information, @ralph9634!

I suggest that you contact Crucial's Tech Support to see if they can give you an explanation of why CPU-Z isn't reading the SPD information.  They have always been extremely helpful.  Otherwise, I can't help you further.

thanks, Ill do that.  Just so that you have an additional data point, I could not see this information from the original Crucial 8gb chip that was in the system from the HP factory.  The second chip that I installed is the identical Crucial part number of the original chip.

Thanks again.
