Hey @LuXoR159,

I sincerely apologize for the incorrect information I previously provided. I'm grateful for the chance to correct it and appreciate your understanding.

You're stuck at BIOS version F.81 (03/12/2024) because the F.46 BIOS update you're trying to apply is not meant for your system. Here's why:

Your BIOS version:

Installed: F.81 Rev.A

BIOS Family: 8918

System: OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop PC GT21-0000i (392G1AV)

BIOS update file you're attempting:

Version: F.46 Rev.A

Also for BIOS family 8918 (seems compatible at first glance)

Your system (i7-14700F, 13th-gen or newer) has a different firmware path that requires the F.8x series.

Thus, the F.4x series, though labeled under BIOS family 8918, is for earlier HP OMEN models with Intel 10th/11th gen CPUs and lacks support for your CPU.

As the expert @NonSequitur777 mentioned, the best approach for now is to wait for a newer BIOS version (such as F.82 or higher) that will succeed F.81.

Thanks for the feedback—this will be shared with the appropriate team.

I hope this helps explain why the BIOS update isn’t going through.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

@LuXoR159,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Looking at HP's BIOS & Drivers page for your OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop PC GT21-0000i (392G1AV) as fitted with the Blizzard motherboard (SSID: 8918) here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/omen-by-hp-40l-gaming-desktop-pc-gt21-0000i/model/2100716060:

I don't see any reference to the F.81 BIOS version whatsoever; the most recent BIOS version for your PC is F.46, released on May 6th, 2025.

My recommendation is to see if you can install F.46 and see what happens.

At least, that is what I would try first.

Kind Regards,

@LuXoR159,

Please share the link that shows the F.81 BIOS version, as I don't see it.

@LuXoR159,

Thanks for sharing that link -outstanding find!

All right -this confirms to me HP did release F.81 Rev.A for the Blizzard motherboard (SSID 8918), but oddly it does not show up in the normal BIOS listings. This likely means F.81 was a special, region-specific, or temporarily released build, possibly intended for internal or QA deployment.

Because F.81 has a higher version number than the current production BIOS (F.46), HP’s updater tool is blocking any attempt to install “lower” versions -even if they are technically newer and more stable in terms of release strategy.

Workaround Options:

  1. Contact HP Support
    Ask them for an updated BIOS (e.g., F.82 or later) that will supersede F.81 -and request clarification about whether F.81 is officially supported: https://support.hp.com/hr-en/check-warranty

  2. Try a BIOS Recovery Flash
    If the system supports BIOS rollback or recovery flashing via USB (using a .bin or .rom file), you might be able to manually override it — but this is advanced and risky if not documented by HP for your model.

  3. Wait for a new BIOS version
    HP may release a version (e.g., F.82+) that will install cleanly on top of F.81 and re-align your machine with the official BIOS path.

Let me know if you'd like help crafting a message to HP support or navigating the recovery BIOS route!

Kind Regards,

Actually it is in normal BIOS listings in (+Previous verision) tab bellow. I tried contact support and bios recovery flash and nothing.It cant be updated and they dont know. Its 4 new BIOS updates that i cant install to improve security and stability. I will wait for F.82 and try it.

@LuXoR159, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It seems you're attempting to download the F.81 Rev.A version, which was released on March 26, 2024. However, the latest available version for your unit is F.46 Rev.A, released on May 6, 2025. Since the F.81 Rev.A version is an earlier release, trying to install it would result in a BIOS downgrade, which isn't allowed.

Please note that downgrading the BIOS isn't possible once it has been updated, as newer versions include important security updates and critical system functionality fixes.

I recommend downloading the latest available version, F.46 Rev.A, released on May 6, 2025. This version includes the most recent security updates and important system functionality improvements, ensuring your system runs optimally and securely.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

You get it wrong, i have F.81 now and i cant install new versions non of that.Check my first post.That new updates of BIOS are useless if we cant install it all of us who are stuck at F.81, and i had to install F.81 because of support 14th Intel CPU.
